I don’t remember Yahoo Answers, probably because I was using a similar service in the network that was more popular in my country (including the language differences), but Quora has become popular in the last few years.

And, yeah, it’s true. Some people spend time researching an answering questions others ask, which is more like “Wikipedia” in a Q&A format :)
